My Story
Hey, I’m Osa Obasuyi, the artist behind PrintsByOsa. Born to Nigerian parents and raised in Spain, I now call Liverpool home. My journey as an artist has been anything but linear—rooted in a childhood dream of becoming a doctor, yet always drawn to creativity as a source of freedom and expression.
Growing up, I was intensely focused on my academic goals. I dreamt of a career in medicine, committing myself to challenging subjects from a young age. But even in the rigorous demands of my studies, art found its way into my life. My first encounter with art was during primary school in Spain, where it was part of the curriculum. Unlike other subjects, art never felt strenuous. Instead, it became a space where I could explore, experiment, and express myself freely.
When it came time to choose my GCSEs, I hesitantly picked art—not because I felt particularly skilled, but because it was a subject where imperfection was embraced, and every piece had its own story. During those years, I explored mixed media, watercolours, gouache, pencils, charcoal, inks, and oils, primarily focusing on architectural buildings and portraits. To my surprise, I excelled, earning an A grade. I assumed this would mark the end of my artistic journey, as A-levels required me to narrow my focus to subjects like Chemistry, Biology, and Math to pursue my goal of studying medicine.
Life had other plans. Unable to take Biology at A-level, I found myself reconsidering my path. Art re-entered the picture, and though I doubted my abilities, I chose to continue. What I discovered was not just a subject but a haven for creativity and self-expression. Art became my escape from the intensity of STEM subjects—a place where I could express emotions and ideas beyond words.
When I started medical school, I worried whether I’d have time or space for art amidst the demanding schedule. For a while, my supplies sat unused. But in my third year, everything changed. I was invited to create live art during a worship session—a concept completely new to me at the time. I hesitated but ultimately said yes, trusting God and taking a leap of faith. That night, I was introduced to prophetic art, and the experience transformed me. Seeing people engage deeply with my work reignited my passion and showed me how art could speak to others on a spiritual level.
Since then, I’ve embraced art as a vital part of my life. No longer limited to portraits, my work now explores emotions and faith, creating pieces that invite connection and reflection. I don’t just create about God—I create with God. Each stroke is a prayer, a story, and an invitation to see beyond the canvas.
Whether I’m leading a workshop, painting live, or working on custom pieces, my mission is the same: to inspire and transform through art, bringing light, hope, and love into every space. Let’s create something that speaks to your soul.
